OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD-- For the past five years Oakdale has sponsored the Operation Christmas Child shoebox project. Each October or November shoeboxes have been wrapped and filled with small gifts, clothing, toys, candy and hygiene products for children around the world. Last year 208 gifts were wrapped and prepared and $110 was donated. How many will it be this year? Please be on the lookout for clearance priced items at the end of summer that could be used to fill the boxes. Look for items appropriate for a boy or girl in these age categories: 2-4 years, 5-8 years, & 9-14 years. Pay close attention to the size of your items and no liquids, chocolate or war-related items please. Another idea might be to ask your dentist for an additional toothbrush/paste when you take the kids in for their annual checkups. This year's Kick-off will be September 30th and Dedication Sunday will be October 28th. Thank you in advance for your help in making this year's project a huge blessing to many children and their families. OUR SYMPATHY TO Kline and Shirley Capps in the passing of Shirley’s mother Mary Newland. BUILDING BOX Finances Total cash received to date: $1,845,404.47 Total cash & pledged to date: $1,912,054.24 Funds borrowed to date: $ 154,550.00 2007 seems to be flying by. A great tax break is available ONLY until Dec. 31 of 2007 for those 70 1/2 and older. If you have an IRA you can, for the balance of this year, make a direct distribution of those assets to the church and it is tax free. Taking advantage of this provision can help satisfy required minimum distributions for 2007 and more, up to $100,000 per person. This amount would not be counted in your itemized deductions and could reduce the taxability of Social Security income. Gifts must be made directly to the church and not pass through your hands. Talk to your tax preparer if this sounds good to you. IF YOU DESIRE prayer or spiritual counsel, following the service there will be a couple available to meet with you on the right hand side of the platform. Attention all Jr. & Sr. High Students!
